this is an unmolested 242 gt in very good but not excellent condition.
i am the third owner and have owned this car for over a third of it’s 33
years. it gets everything that it needs when it needs it. i fuss over
it still but for the last seven years i have rarely used it. i have
put no more than 7k on it over the last 7 years. it is a well used but
well kept 242 gt. it is completely stock except for the following:
– it has a little used, imported (expensive) grenor header from sweden. the header still has the factory paint on it.
– the motor was rebuilt about 80-100k miles ago ( i am estimating here)
by the previous owner. i was told it was rebuilt by ed schram in surrey
bc, canada but i have never verified this. performance parts and specs
were used in the re-build but i do not have the build sheet, nor am i
charging more for this. the performance build is evident however. the
motor is very strong running. it has a lumpy cam and is powerful –
especially for a non-turbo 2.1 liter.
– it has the r sport instrument cluster. the cluster was re-built about
5k ago by roger patricio, florida, usa. i have not hooked up the
pressure and amperage gauges. that is evident in the videos.
– it has a sony xplode stereo with usb input and 4 panasonic speakers.
the body has about 300k miles on it. i figure this because the car had two instrument clusters when i bought it and the one that worked was run by me to 500,000 kilometers (not miles) up to the point that i installed the r sport cluster about 5000 miles ago. the r sport cluster is imperial, not metric.
it has had some rust patches in the rear fender wells but these are relatively small. the car is solid. it is not a rust bucket. the patches were completed with fiberglass and are primarily to the passenger side rear fenderwell. please view the additional photos on the flickr site (get there by looking the car up on seattle craigslist…the link is listed there).
you will notice one photo with a black grill – the grill has been returned to its original silver color.
beyond those few modifications, i can tell you of the following work being done within the last 5 thousand miles:
– four little used tires – h rated khumos with two spares, all on 15″
virgos (the tires were new in 2007 but little use since then – the
wheels were re-coated about 15 years ago)
– new disks (front), new calipers (front), new brake pads – all around
– new master cylinder
– new performance header
– new coil, sparks, distributor cap, wires (all ipd)
and in the last 1000 miles
– rebuilt seat foam
– new pressurized water reservoir (2 months ago)
– new valve cover gasket (the valve cover was polished at this point)
it has not been abused and needs very little. the body is solid and the interior is good (new dash pad; mint roof liner etc).
– it has a one-year old battery; the gas tank was replaced 13 years ago,
steering column about 7 years ago, suspension bushings – 10 years ago
etc etc
bc residents – the car was originally for the canadian market. i bought
it in the lower mainland originally and i have still the record of
canadian registration.
lastly, if i am so fortunate to realize the buy it now price, i am adding all of the following extras.
new, in the box, never opened, reproduction gt stripe kit by roger patricio – this was over 200 dollars, i forget the exact amount.
2 extra virgo rims in very good condition with h rated khumos – just like what are on the car already
a complete gt grill including fog light cut-outs and the fog lights and mounting hardware
a box of various other parts
that cool looking yakima roof rack that is in one of the photos. it has a center cargo carrier and elastic net to secure your cargo, two rocky mount bike racks, a center bit rack. all of the towers are lockable as are the fork mounts for your bikes. several extra keys too – this was about 800 dollars new.
a box of vintage volvo brochures – not necessarily all relevant to the gt
a fix your volvo book
odd ball extras as a car cover, new mann filter (just one), box of parts, the old instrument cluster
key words – gt 242 242gt 242glt glt 240 volvo “flat hood” “r sport”
